On this cycling Tour we bike most of the British Columbia Coastal Circle Route. Starting in Victoria, we bike around Vancouver Island, before crossing over by ferry to the Sunshine Coast, and eventually making our way to Whistler.

Along the way we'll ride through Victoria, the capital of B.C. where we pick up the Galloping Goose and Trans Canada Trails, ride beside numerous Marine Parks, take a Ferry to the Gulf Islands so we can exlore them by bike, cross by Ferry to Powell River and ride along the famous Sunshine Coast, before taking a final Ferry back to Vancouver before heading up the Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler, where we'll cap our tour with a ride through Pemberton and out to beautiful Anderson Lake nestled high in the mountains before ending back in Whistler. This is an Epic Tour!

Sunshine Coast Cycling Tour: Day 1 - Vancouver Island

62 mi, 7,300'

Riders should fly into Victoria on Saturday so you are ready to go Sunday morning. We meet at 8:00am at the Sidney Pier Hotel & Spa in the town of Sidney on Vancouver Island, three miles from Victoria International Airport. After a brief orientation, we begin our ride along the coast, heading towards the city of Victoria where we pick up the Galloping Goose Trail. From there we head south along the shoreline toward the seaside town of Sooke and our hotel for the night, the Prestige Hotel & Resort. But before we get there we will climb into the mountains seeking the Sooke Potholes, a popular waterfall and swimming hole. Dinner is on your own tonight, all within walking distance.

Sunshine Coast Cycling Tour: Day 2 - Vancouver Island

62 mi, 7,300'

Today our bike route follows the West Coast Road as we head northwest toward the town of Port Renfrew and the Pacific Rim Park Reserve. Here we turn inland, climbing steadily on a quiet country road toward Cowichan Lake, our destination for the night. The Trans Canada Trail passes through town heading north and south. Dinner is on your own tonight.

82 miles / 5,500 ft. elevation gain

60 mi, 7,139'

Sunshine Coast Cycling Tour: Day 3 - Gulf Islands

62 mi, 7,300'

Bike along the Trans Canada Trail as we head toward the east side of Vancouver Island. We need to catch a noon Ferry to Salt Spring Island, one of the Gulf Islands, where we'll cycle a figure eight from north to south before catching the Ferry back to Vancouver Island. We land mainside tonight in the port town of Chemainus.

Walk to the Chemainus Theater and have a glass of wine in the Playbill Dining Room before watching a show, or perhaps stroll the Town that once moved huge lumber planks to docked ships in the late 1800's, before retiring to dinner (on your own) at one of the restaurants within walking distance of our hotel. Tomorrow is a big day.

Sunshine Coast Cycling Tour: Day 4 - Vancouver Island

62 mi, 7,300'

This bike tour heads north today following the quieter roads along the coast as we put in a century ride ending in the town of Courtenay. It's a big day, so relax in the hot tub or have a cocktail at the bar before dinner. Tomorrow we shuttle from the hotel, and board a BC Ferry for an hour-plus journey across the inside passage to Powell River and the Sunshine Coast!

100 miles / 1,000 ft. elevation gain

Day 5 - Sunshine Coast

62 mi, 7,300'

We start today with a mid-morning Ferry ride across the inside passage to Powell River on the north end of the Sunshine Coast. From here we ride further north on the Sunshine Coast Hwy to the small port town of Lund before turning back toward Powell River. Have a glass of wine on the patio of the Beach Gardens Resort, or stroll along the beach enjoying the views of the coast and Texada Island across the bay. A great dinner spot is right here on the outdoor patio of the Savory Bight Seaside Restaurant.

36-50 miles / 1,000 ft. elevation gain

60 mi, 7,139'

Day 6 - Sunshine Coast

62 mi, 7,300'

Ride south on the Sunshine Coast Hwy. We have a BC Ferry to catch at 9:30 for a 50 minute cruise to Earl's Cove before cycling the rest of the Sunshine Coast to the town of Gibsons Landing. Enjoy the coast views to the west today - this is the Sunshine Coast.

A short stroll from Gibsons Landing Inn along the harbour seawalk brings you to Government Wharf, waterfront pubs, restaurants, craft shops and art galleries. In the working harbour watch the fishing boats unload their catch.

81 miles / 3,000 ft. elevation gain

60 mi, 7,139'

Day 7 - Whistler / Pemberton / Anderson Lake

62 mi, 7,300'

This morning we say goodbye to the ocean and board our final BC Ferry for a 40 minute journey across the water past Bowen Island to Horseshoe Bay. From here, a 60 mile shuttle brings us to Whistler where we start our ride. Today is all mountains! We drop down from Whistler into Pemberton and continue on a quiet mountain road to scenic Anderson Lake. After lunch, we cycle back toward Pemberton, where you may chose to shuttle up the mountain to Whistler, or like the Iron Man Whistler course does, climb back up it for a more challenging ride!

Tonight we stay in the heart of Whistler Village, right next to the Olympic Plaza. Stroll through the shops and restaurants, with numerous dining choices close by.

77-97 miles / 3,000-5,000 ft. elevation gain

60 mi, 7,139'

Day 8 - Whistler

62 mi, 7,300'

Choose how you want to spend your morning today. Explore Whistler Plaza and it's shops, coffee houses and restaurants. Or have a slow breakfast before walking along some forest trails. Or go for an optional 40 mile ride that climbs up to Whistler Olympic Park high in the mountains south of town.

If you chose the ride this morning, take a shower before checking out and heading to the bus station to catch the shuttle back to Vancouver. Or if you've never been to Whistler, perhaps book another night in town so you can explore the Village further before you head home. If you mountain bike then you will definitely want more time here.

It is a 2.5 hour bus ride to Vancouver Airport. The easiest hotel to stay at near the airport is the Fairmont Vancouver Airport where the bus stops. Any other hotels you will need to take a shuttle from the airport to reach them.
